STANDISH BOAT YARD – GENERAL RULES & POLICIES
Applies to: All customers, guests, contractors, and visitors to Standish Boat Yard (“SBY”)
DISCLAIMER & LIABILITY WAIVER
Standish Boat Yard, Inc. assumes no responsibility or liability for loss or damage to any vessel, gear, equipment, trailer, vehicle, or other property, whether on land or in water, howsoever caused, including but not limited to fire, theft, vandalism, ice, wind, storm, sinking, collision, acts of God, or negligence of others. All property is stored, berthed, or left on SBY premises at the sole risk of the owner.
All vessel owners are required to carry valid liability and hull insurance while on SBY property. Proof of coverage must be provided upon request. Owners agree to indemnify and hold harmless Standish Boat Yard, Inc., its employees, and agents from any and all claims, damages, or expenses arising from the presence or operation of their vessel on SBY property.
GENERAL YARD POLICIES
Outside Labor
No outside labor is permitted without prior written approval from the yard.
Specialized services (e.g., electronics) may be arranged through the office and will be billed by the yard.
Approved subcontractors must carry $1,000,000 in liability insurance and provide documentation before work begins.
Subcontractors must check in and out with the office daily.
Vessel Advertising
No “For Sale” signs may be displayed without prior approval from management.
Standard Services
Rates for hauling, storage, and launching do not include unrigging, covering, or preparation of boats.
Haul/Launch Scheduling
Due to volume and weather, specific haul/launch dates cannot be guaranteed.
With sufficient notice, we will attempt to accommodate a requested week.
Owners should not plan to be present during these operations.
DINGHY STORAGE
All dinghies must be removed from the marina by November 1, unless prior storage arrangements are made.
Dinghies left in the water after this date will be removed and stored at the owner’s expense.
Dinghies may not be stored on yard property during winter without written approval.
Abandoned dinghies will be disposed of or auctioned at the owner’s expense.
Derelict or sinking dinghies requiring removal will be billed at standard labor rates.
Dinghies stored on the dinghy dock must not exceed 12 feet in length unless approved by the marina manager.
All dinghies must display a valid SBY registration sticker; non-compliant dinghies will be removed at the owner’s expense.
STANDS & MASTHEAD EQUIPMENT
SBY is not responsible for damage to wind indicators, antennas, or other masthead equipment.
If left in place, the owner assumes all risk.
Removal and storage of masthead equipment, if feasible, will be billed as part of the unstepping charge.
SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE
No electric cords may be plugged in during winter storage.
Electric heaters are strictly prohibited.
Activities involving open flame, fuel systems, engines, painting, or hazardous materials require prior approval.
Discharging fuel, oil, or antifreeze into land or water is prohibited; owners are responsible for proper disposal.
Bottom work, sanding, or painting by owners is prohibited—schedule these services through the yard.
Owners must keep the area around their vessel clean; cleanup by yard staff will be billed to the owner.
No swimming, fishing, or diving from marina docks without written permission.
Pets must be leashed and under control at all times; owners must clean up after pets.
BILLING & PAYMENTS
Services are billed at the time rendered and charged to the credit card on file.
A 3.5% credit card fee applies to all card payments.
A 2% environmental fee applies to all service charges (excluding fuel and retail items).
Alternate payment arrangements must be made in advance.
A 1.5% monthly finance charge (18% annually) applies to all balances unpaid after 30 days.
All balances must be paid in full before summer slip or mooring contracts are accepted.
No billing adjustments after 30 days from invoice date.
STORAGE, LIENS, AND LIABILITY
All charges are a lien against the vessel and its contents until paid in full.
Collection fees, including legal costs, will be added to outstanding balances.
Per R.I.G.L. §34-46-1, vessels and contents may be sold at public auction for failure to pay storage charges.
Boats not launched by June 1 may incur retroactive storage fees from May 1.
Unclaimed vessels after September 1 may result in title transfer to SBY.
Vessels overstaying contract dates become lease-at-will tenants, subject to current rates and rules.
Wooden boats launched only with owner present; re-hauls/time in slings billed at standard rates.
Pumping due to leaks is billed at $85/hour plus $50/day pump fee; haul-outs billed at regular rates.
Winter storage customers receive priority for slips and moorings the following season.
SLIP & STORAGE DEADLINES
Boats left in slips after November 1 without winter storage arrangements will be billed at transient rates.
Boats in wet storage not summering with SBY must vacate by May 1.
Boats stored on land with masts up are at owner’s risk; the yard is not liable for wind damage.
Stands will be adjusted at owner’s expense if necessary.
ENFORCEMENT
Violation of these rules may result in removal from SBY property at the owner’s expense. SBY reserves the right to amend these rules at any time without prior notice.
